Andrew Benson-Wilson plays Reincken

Venue: St George's, Hanover Square
Location: London
Johann Adam Reincken (1643-1722) was one of the most important 17th century North German organist-composers. He studied under Scheidemann and replaced him as organist of the Hamburg Katharinenkirche. He was a friend of Buxtehude and an early influence on Bach who, aged 15, copied out the chorale fantasia An Wasserflüssen Babylon. In 1720, Bach improvised on the same chorale in honour of Reincken who commented: "I thought that this art was dead, but I see that it lives in you". Toccata in G Toccata in A Chorale fantasia: An Wasserflüssen Babylon
