A practical guide to writing fugues for students, of particular interest to candidates for the RCO Diploma examinations, but useful to anyone with some skills in basic harmony who wishes to expand their knowledge. The booklet, which can be downloaded below, has recently been revised by Ian Curror, with additional material in collaboration with Frederick Stocken. Topics include fugal terminology and structure, the construction of a fugal exposition, and strategies for composing a fugal episode. It includes many practical examples, and a collection of fugue subjects for practice at the end.
