The Cavaille-Coll organ at St Ouen, France In the aftermath of the fire at Notre Dame, most organists were reduced to repeatedly shouting at the television news "But what about the organ!?" over the endless speculation about the survival of the rose windows, religious relics and paintings.  It was a relief to finally see images of Notre-Dame's Cavaillé-Coll looking a little sooty, but seemingly intact, on social media a few days later, though we all understood the likelihood of internal damage from heat, smoke and water.
