Maria Jenner marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Franz Schmidt (1874–1939) as she views this significant Austrian composer through the lens of two of his most important pupils: Susi Jeans and Friedrich Mihatsch. Lady Susi Jeans (née Hock) settled in Britain in the 1930s and became an influential and respected protagonist in the British organ world. Her influence is still felt today in many ways. Sadly, Friedrich Mihatsch, her contemporary and fellow Schmidt pupil, has fallen from view, despite his noteworthy activities as a recitalist and composer.
