Exotic resonances: the organ music of Francis Grier

'Francis Grier’s remarkably individual music combines influences from diverse traditions with the experiences of a fascinating career inspired by some of Britain’s most distinguished organists,' says Tom Winpenny, in this article which summarises Grier's career as Cathedral organist, leading chamber musician, and composer.

Winpenny discusses how Grier's organ writing is often inspired by the experience of playing and hearing an instrument in a large ecclesiastical space, and details the background to many of his commissioned works, up to his most recent organ work, And God said... commissioned by Stephen Farr and premiered by him as part of Westminster Cathedral's Grand Organ Festival in September 2018.

The article is illustrated with music examples and includes a list of Grier's organ works and a discography.  It first appeared in the RCO Journal for 2018.
